Bobby has found that he really likes cooking. He researches recipes online and mixes and matches. He makes notes on the recipe as he goes and perfects it.
So, here is Bobby cooking the hamburger and onions. He is wearing the long sleeves because I am always hot and he is always cold. Our compromise is that I crank up the AC and he wears long sleeves.
Here are some more of his ingredients. I wanted to take a picture of the recipe but he said it was a secret. I hope this picture doesn't give too much away.
This is what his Chili looked like in the crock pot. Mmm Mmm good.
He also found this awesome recipe for biscuits like the ones at Red Lobster. They are amazing!
Very early on in the process he sliced his finger open cutting the onions. There was actually quite a bit of blood. I saw it and knew he needed stitches. He put it under water in the faucet. I knew we needed to stop the bleeding so I grabbed a dish towel and started applying pressure. I had him hold it while I grabbed the first aid kit out of the cupboard and tore through it looking for the needed supplies.
This is just part of the mess I made looking for the supplies I wanted. My first priority was to stop the bleeding. I found the gauze pretty quickly but then I couldn't find the medical tape. So, my first attempt at bandaging him included duct tape (see above photo).
Very soon after I decided the bleeding had stopped enough for me to re bandage it. I actually found these sticky sterile strips to close the wound. The man is really stubborn and refused to go and get stitches. He says we can't afford it (but I think he's scared). So, this a picture of my second, much better attempt, at bandaging up his finger. Later that night we decided it needed to be cleaned. Unfortunately when I pulled off the sticky steri strip it reopened the wound and much more bleeding commenced. I had the camera out to take a picture of the actual cut but decided my first priority should probably be to clean and recover the wound. So, I poured some peroxide on it and quickly bandaged it up again tight so it would stop the bleeding. We decided that since he wasn't bleeding through the gauze he should probably be okay. This morning I noticed his finger was turning purple at the tip so I loosened the gauze on it. I wasn't able to take the gauze off though because it is stuck to the wound. So, tonight I am going to try to wet a q-tip then wet the incision a bit to loosen the gauze. This time I am going to put some neosporen on it and re-gauze it. I suggested a band aid but he said he likes the gauze because it pads it and it's quite painful. Hopefully more pictures to come. I hope there isn't any more bleeding. Advice from any nurse friends would be great!
Not to be outdone by Bobby I tried to do a little baking. I love baking unfortunately i'm not very good as evidenced by the disgusting looking pie below. We were inspired recently by an episode of Psych in which they eat a cinnamon pie. Taking a note out of Bobby's book I did a little research online and found a recipe. It looked pretty simple. I am not the pie crust queen like my mom so I had Bobby buy me a pie crust. Good thing it came with two crusts because that means I can try to redeem myself with a second attempt. The recipe was simple but it came out weird. It's like the top layer is good but the bottom layer is all water. It tastes pretty darn good and i'm sure we will still eat it but I would never serve it to anyone else. I guess it's time to try another recipe. Any suggestions from anybody who has a good cinnamon pie recipe would be greatly appreciated.
You need to get something besides gauze on his finger. Like a non-stick pad....like a bandaid....or the skin will grow over the gauze! That actually happened to me. I chopped the corner of my index finger off at girls camp a few years ago, trying to chop kindling to start a fire. I grew up chopping wood, so it's not like I didn't know what I was doing. It was just a freak accident. Anyway, I gooped it up really good with neosporin and put gauze over it. By the next morning, it had already started healing and the skin grew over the gauze, despite the neosporin. I had to ever so slowly, break the skin open again to get the gauze out. That was not fun! It was fine once I got the non-stick pad on it though. I wish I knew what they were called so you could go to the store and buy some, but I don't. I just found them in the Stake's first aid kit. If his wound is a slice/cut that can be closed, you probably won't have that problem. My wound was open. The whole chunk of skin came off, so there was not flap of skin to put back over it. GOOD LUCK!
